What Causes Stiffness And Severe Pain In The Neck?

I woke up this morning, lifted my head off the pillow and heard a snapping noise on the right side of my neck, then I couldnt move my neck. Now it is very painful to turn my head to the right, or else I get a shooting spasm like pain in the right side of my neck.
