What Causes Stiffness In Back Of Knee After An Injury?

I play many sports, but during my last on-ice hockey practice, I fell on my knee (I was wearing thin knee pads) and I now have a stiffness in the back of the knee, a significant jolt of pain walking down hill and a real discomfort when walking for more than 5 mins. I am not in pain when inactive and I did not twist or fall awkwardly during the accident. What damage am I likely to have done - I am 47 and have been active all my life with no previous knee problems.

Hi,

Its usually because of spasm of muscles of the back of the knee, apply ice, take muscle relaxant, applied diclofenac gel, and use knee cap.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Jaideep Gaver, Orthopedic Surgeon
