What Causes Stiffness In The Body?

Hi, my mother is suffering from a fracture in D-12, she fall down on the floor but now she is taking full bed rest from the last 1.5 mnths. She is also having disc slip problem. From some days she is feeling stiffness in her body, may be due to bed rest. Please suggest me that should she carry her bed rest or should stop it here.
