What Causes Stiffness In The Calf Muscle While Running?

Hi there, I play football and have had a problem with my calf tightening up until the pain is too sever to continue running. I was diagnosed last year with a calf strain, however I have experienced a muscle tear in hamstring and groin before and this was completely different as it gradually got worse. I have also experienced the identical pain down into my other calf muscle. Does anyone know what may be causing this pain? and what can I do to recover asap to get back running and playing?
