What Causes Stinging Sensation In Chest Bone Along With Abdominal Distension?

Yes please - I have had a diagnosis of costochondritis and had several bouts that eventually ease with naproxen. It has started again and I ve been suffering with the stinging sensation in my chest bone and also distended stomach (in the evening particularly after meal) - very uncomfortable and I also have a swelling (which I told the doctor about) just to the right of the sternum into my chest. I am female, aged 62yrs

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

The distension/bloating of the stomach may be due to reflux which can be worsened by naproxen or the medications in that family of drugs.

The use of medications such as prevacid, prilosec, protonix, nexium would help to treat this problem though it can take a few days for these to have an effect.
This is because they cannot get rid of the acid present but help to reduce future acid production.

The stinging may be due to the effect of the inflammation on any nerves in the area.
It should decrease with time.

I hope this helps
