What Causes Stinging Sensation In The Urethra?

Hi, I am female, I have been experiencing stinging in the urethra for over a week (mild at first, seems to be increasing), not moreso when I urinate, it s just there . Went to doctor, he did test strip in my urine thought there was a mild infection started me on antibiotics. He sent urine away and now has called to say there is NO evidence of infection. The antibiotics don t seem to be improving my symptom. I can t see doctor again for 2 more days. What could be causing the pain?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
This is mostly due to urinary tract infection. Women suffer more frequently from recurrent UTI than men because of their shorter urethra and proximity of urethral opening to anus.
1.     Drink 4 – 5 liters of uncontaminated water to flush out bacteria
2.     Syrup alkaline citrate 2 teaspoonful three times daily for 1 week
3.     Ciprofloxacin 500 mg per oral twice daily for 7 days
4.     Investigations – routine examination of urine, culture & sensitivity of urine
5.     Drink fruit juice and cranberry juice
6.     Do not hold your urine. Urinate when you feel
7.     Wipe from front to back after bowel movements
