What Causes Stomach Bloating And Abdominal Cramps After Taking Birth Control Pills?

Hi, I just started the first day of my second week on my birth control and I had unprotected sex 6 days ago. That day I forgot to take my pill and took the pill the next day. Now I feel a little sick to my stomach and I m bloated with cramps. Could I be pregnant? And should I stop taking my birth control?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Dyspeptic symptoms and bloating are quite common. with OCP( oral contraceptive pills).

As a first-line management antacids like omeprazole or pantoprazole can be taken. If symptoms persist, it is better to consult a physician and get evaluated.

You can opt for POP( progesterone-only pills) which has got less side effects.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
