What Causes Stomach Bloating During Periods?

I am 35 year old latino/black women, Mother of two. My question is why do I look pregnant all the time moreso during my period? I bleed for 7-14 days, heavy bleeding, back pain and unbearable cramps. I am afraid it fibroids as my mother at this age had to remove of 50 of them ranging from a golf ball to a watermelon, and my grandmother a full hysterectomy

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Heavy menstrual bleeding and abdominal bloating is commonly caused due to hormonal imbalance. I would suggest pelvic scan, complete blood count and thyroid function test should be taken to rule out uterine fibroid, endometriosis or ovarian cysts. Cyclical hormonal therapy may be required for a few cycles to reduce the bleeding.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
