What Causes Stomach Bloating While Having Mirena IUD?
Hello, I have the Mirena IUD (5 year) next year i m due to take it out however, for the past month my stomach has been bloated and it feels like pregnancy movement. I ve taken 3 urine pregnancy 1 at the doctors office and two at home and all of them have come back negative. I am wondering if this is a normal side effect for Mirena. My doctor looks at me like I m crazy but I don t know what to do?
Hello, Welcome to HCM I understand your concern Although Mirena is known to cause abdominal cramps, rarely it does so late long after its insertion as is your case. Stomach bloating could be due to other reason also, most commonly due to overeating, indigestion, constipation, irritable bowel syndrome. I suggest you visit a physician to rule out medical causes before you relate the symptoms to Mirena. Still if you feel discomfort, there are other options of contraception like barrier methods, Depot injection( Depot Medroxyprogestrone acetate DMPA) or strelization which can be looked into. Hope this information is useful. Regards
