What Causes Stomach Cramps Along With Sore Throat And Headache?

My 10 year old son is having severe stomach pains, he wakes in the middle of the night. He is also complaining of a sore throat and headache. We had him checked for strep(which was negative). He is not running a fever but the Dr. Mentioned the lymph nodes on left side are swollen. He put him on amoxicillin but we have seen no improvement. Any ideas on what this could be besides strep. He has had many stomach issues in past with no definite answer. Maybe acid reflux or allergies( he does have a lot). Seems to be this time of year his stomach really flares. We had him scoped 3 years ago and he had a really swollen esophagus. We did omeprazole and eliminated wheat. The following month he was scoped again and it seemed to subside. We thought it was due to extremely high tree allergy. I am at a loss now. Really surprised with the sore throat. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

Hello,

Without an exam, I can only give general information and cannot say in your particular case, but generally, virus infections cause lymph node elevation and irritation. They can directly kill off the gut lining and sometimes this causes spasm and/or pain.

Pepto-Bismol is a specific treatment for this.There can be other bacteria that cause food poisoning. Amoxicillin works on nearly all of them, and Pepto-Bismol is a bit helpful there too.Oh, and if there is any previous irritation of the stomach, it takes a while for it to heal up. A minor viral infection while the stomach is healing from the previous one can cause more pain and inflammation than expected.Finally, it sounds like you are receiving excellent medical care.
