What Causes Stomach Cramps And Back Pain While On Birth Control Pills?

Hello! I started Birth control pills about 3 months ago and I was taking it to where I wouldn t have a period and I didn t have my first two periods. I started bleeding very very light on August 16 and lasted till the 29. It was very liquidy and didn t seem normal and kind of a light brown color. I stopped taking the pills. (All the while on the pills I wasn t taking them at the same time everyday because I would forget and I had unprotected sex a lot.) I was ovulating the 28- sept 3 (I have an app) and I had unprotected sex everyday. Today is sept 22 and I am currently 6 days late on my period. I usually poop like 2 times a day, but for the last month I have pooped like every 3/4 days. I ve been burping a lot. My boyfriend has commented on the fact that my boobs look and feel bigger and I have noticed it too. I ve been very tired. I ve been having some slight cramping and this whole month I ve had some back pain which isn t normal. Is it possible I m pregnant? Or do you think it s from my upcoming period and birth control put together? Please help. Btw my period usually come about 1-2 days early

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Since you had already stopped taking the contraceptive pills & were quite irregular while you had been taking it. You also had unprotected intercourse. If you did not take emergency contraceptive pills within 72 hours then you can be pregnant.

You are suggested to visit a gynecologist, get physically checked. Get urine test for pregnancy done with the first-morning midstream urine to confirm pregnancy.

In the meantime avoid addictions if any & take food rich in calcium, iron & protein.

For stomach cramps, you can take antacids & for backache take Acetaminophen, one sos when required. Always take medicines under your treating doctor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
