What Causes Stomach Discomfort After Taking Aleve For Severe Back Pain?
My husband was having severe back pain for couple days now. While I was gone from home he took about ten Aleve pills 220mg within two hours. When he told me I informed him he will probably get sick and need medical attention tonight because I know that is way over the dosage. He won t listen to me and that I don t know what I am talking about. He says he will be fine. Right now he says his stomach feels weird.
Thanks for contacting HCM. I just want you to know that aleve (naproxen) is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID)and overdose to these medications is very common. NSAID prevent production of prostaglandin and thos prostaglandin helps to protect stomach by increasing mucus and bicarbonate production. Mild to moderate ingestion may manifest with gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting etc (as in your husband case) and electrolyte abnormalities that resolve rapidly with supportive care. I dont know your husband's age and his general health condition so i would suggest you to ask him to contact emergency and have him under observation. Hope this has helped Regards
