What Causes Stomach Spasms, Cold Sweats And Nausea When Diagnosed With AFib?

My dad is 81 yrs old, he was in the hospital back in December with afib, his heart was shocked and that fixed it, he s not real sickly and does not do anything strenuous, however , he just told me his stomach is in spasms, he s having cold sweats intermittently, and was nauseated earlier. He said he didn t eat today cause I m thinking he has no appetite. I had pancreatitis 4 years ago and his symptoms almost mirror what I had, except I had a lot of vomiting, that was as the pancreatitis progressed. Any clue as to what it is?

Cardiologist 's  Response
Hello,

His symptoms are not suggestive of pancreatitis, but just gastritis or an infection. I recommend consulting with his attending physician for a physical exam and some tests:
- Complete blood count, PCR, ESR
- Kidney and liver function tests
- A resting ECG and cardiac enzymes in order to exclude a cardiac issue

In the meantime, I recommend taking a PPI (Omeprazole, Pantoprazole) in case of acid reflux, which could mimic this situation.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
