I quit smoking two months ago. Caught a cold and started coughing, one morining there was tiny streaks of blood in it, this happend in the morning for three days. I would cough up mucus all day and it would be clear. I went to my doctor and she told me it was nothing to be seriously worried about, is this true?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

There can be several causes for blood in sputum.

For further assessment I would suggest you to consult with chest physician for detailed clinical examination.

He may procure chest X Ray, sputum examination, complete hemogram as per evaluation.

Further treatment mainly depends upon the underlying condition. Take balanced diet.

You can take cough syrup. You may require antibiotics after consultation.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
