What Causes Strong Heartbeats That Can Be Heard?

I can hear my heartbeat through my pillow when I lie on my leftside at night. The more I focus on it, the louder it gets, and now I find it hard to sleep, I think just from over-focusing on the sound. I have no other symptoms or problems with my heart.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Sometimes, hearing of your heartbeat through your pillow when you lie on your left side at night is due to the anatomical structure of the person.

However, I recommend running a complete blood count to rule out possible anaemia.

A cardiac ultrasound is highly recommended to rule out problems with heart valves and blood vessels.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Albana Sejdini, General & Family Physician
