What Causes Strong Odored Orange Bleeding During Periods?

for about the last year my mom (who has had a full hysterectomy since early 80's) has had a coralish orange bleeding. she says that when she gets cut that blood is a normal red. she also states that the "menstral" blood has a strong odor to it. Any ideas?
