What Causes Strong Perfume Like Taste And Smell In Mouth Post An Injury?

I had a brain injury 3 months ago. I suffered a fractured skull and bleed on back of head. I lost my sense of taste and smell. I had vertigo which has now been treated. 6 weeks ago I started having an unusual taste in my mouth which I can only describe as perfume. As the weeks passed it has got worse. It spoils my food. My water. It wakes me up at night. Mints, brushing teeth, chewing gum, breath spray do nor work. I have been treated for oral thrush. No change. Please help

Hi,

Without an exam, I can only give general information and cannot say in your particular case, but generally, it's either a physical disruption of the sinuses and gunk accumulating in them (but that is with infection taste and smell, not perfume) or, more likely, irritation to the nerves involved with smell and/or the nerves growing in wrong and being disrupted, irritated and giving signals to the brain when there is no smell. There are a lot of treatments for nerve activity that is overactive. Any nerve damper including all anti-arrhythmia and all anti-seizure medicines. They generally are fully effective at very low doses. And side effects do not occur at the doses used for twitchy nerves, so, safe, cheap, effective.
Also, amitryptiline and local lidocaine might be helpful and they also are quite safe and inexpensive.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
