What Causes Strong Pulsations In The Collar Bone?

I’m 45 years old and female, 5’4”, 190lbs. About a year ago, I began to be able to see my pulse just above the notch of my collarbone. When I cough, the lower portion of my neck puffs out. Seeing my pulse seems to getting more pronounced. I’ve been diagnosed with tachycardia, premature ventricular contractions, and I have a small patent foreman ovale. Any ideas why I can see my pulse so pronounced?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

First of all tell at what exact site your seeing the pulsation. There are two sites.

1) Above the collar bone. Which is called raised jugular venous pressure which occurs in heart disease.
2) In between the collar bone. Which is known as suprasternal notch pulsations which occurs in heart disease and thyrotoxicosis. Get Your 2D echo and ECG done. And thyroid function test done.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
