Hi,
Noted the history about your 6 year old son having foul smelling
ear discharge, treated with Zithromycin,
Ofloxacin ear drops but the smell remains. This indicates that there is an active infection and should be investigated further. The possible causes are one of the following:
- Foreign body is common in this age group and thus should be ruled out.
- Cholesteotoma is another known cause to give bad smelling discharge from ear.
Hence I would advise you the following:
- Take him to the ENT Surgeon as experience matters to know the diagnosis.
- Cleaning and sending the sample of pus for gram staining, culture and sensitivity. This help a lot in further management.
-
CT scan of the mastoids if the routine course of antibiotics, anti-inflammatory medicines do not resolve the problem.
Further management as per the findings will help for the cure.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
