Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my wife had sudden back pain right bellow her ribs on right side this morning. It was from nothing strenues she was sitting at her desk.she has no appetite and has vomited and her pain is getting worse .She is a tough girl and never complains of pain .she is 52 years old.she has never had kidney stones or utc .what should i do?
Thanks for your question. Well such sudden onset, severe pain under ribs on back side with vomiting can be due to multiple causes and can arise from one or more organs of the body.It can be from gall bladder(gall stones, gall bladder inflammation),pancreas(inflammation) or stomach(acid-peptic disease),kidney(stones, infection). I will advise you to give her an anti emetic available over the counter like Dramamine along with pain killer like Advil(Ibuprofen) for vomiting and pain relief. If she has symptoms of heart burn the antacids like syrup Gaviscon can be given. This is just to provide her immediate relief. But afterwards you see doctor for assessment and further complete work up to rule out more serious problems. She will be need to undertake few tests like CBC,serum amylase, urine analysis and ultrasound. Hope it helps you. Thanks
