My wife and I were watching a football replay on ESPN3. Suddenly the vision in the left corner of my left eye started getting wiggly , a little blurry. Then as I was writing this it suddenly went away. I could not focus on the whole screen at once. The center was sharp, and off to the left corner it was kind of moving around. I had cataract surgery about a year and a half ago and have never had any problems since. Can you tell me what might have happened? Thank you very much. Dean Foster
Hi. Cataract Surgery is a Risk factor for a future development of retinal detachment. That doesn t mean that you have already one , but you have to go to your ophtalmologist if you notice some visual acuity deterioration for a retina exam. The symptoms you discribe ( wiggly , then went away) are probably caused by floaters im Vitreous , that means degenerative changes in eyes that are harmlos. Eye floaters appear as small spots that drift through your field of vision. They may stand out when you look at something bright, like white paper or a blue sky. They might annoy you, but they shouldn’t interfere with your sight. You can learn to live with floaters and ignore them. You may notice them less as time passes. Only rarely do they get bad enough to require treatment. But if you note Flashes , go to your Ophtalmologist. Best regards
