What Causes Sudden Cough And Fever In A Child?

Son has 102 temp with bad cough was at er last night no strep and X-rays clean but he also never had fever till tonight he has cough meds but not helping also put humidifier in his room with meds in it still no help he has had this cough for 3 weeks and no fever till tonight

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query your son is having sudden cough and fever which could be due to bacterial/ viral infection and due to underlying medical condition. It could be due to poor immunity of body. need not to worry. Take diet rich in multivitamins, fruits and take multivitamin tablet as well to boost body immunity. I would suggest you to take combination of Ibuprofen and Tylenol as it is safe combination and you can take that for your present condition. Drink plenty of water to rehydrate yourself. As fever is of high grade at times so you should do tepid sponging as well. Visit pediatrician once and get complete examination done. You should take cough syrup and avoid intake of cold carbonated beverages.
