Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I m a 51 yr old female. In the last year or so I have been having sudden coughing spells that are hard to suppress, as well as choking easily when eating. Sometimes to the point the only way to stop it is to throw up what I have eaten. It feels like the food went into my lungs and not my stomach. I have been diagnosed with Sjorgrens. Could this be my problem?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Nishad BN's Response
Hi Thank you for asking HCM I have gone through your query. Your problem can be due to esophagitis or Laryngopharyngeal reflux. Taking proton pump inhibitors like Esomeprazole (Nexium) and motility enhancers like Domperidone for long term will be helpful for this. Avoid excess spicy and fatty foods. Junk foods, coffee, alcohol and smoking should be avoided also. Take light meals at short intervals. Have your dinner at least 2 hours before bed time. Raise your head end more with extra adequate pillows while sleeping. You can have ginger tea or chamomile tea which is good also. If there is no improvement after 1 month then consult a Gastroenterologist and undergo fibrogastroduodenoscopy if needed to find out the exact status of your condition.
Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear. Thanks.
