What Causes Sudden Dizziness In An Elderly Patient?

I work up last night with extreme dizziness and remained that way for more than an hour. I had awoken and needed the bathroom and was so dizzy I barely made it back to bed. I am fine today but exhausted. Is there anything to worry about? I am a 62 year old woman in reasonably good health

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Dizziness can be due to different possible causes such as dehydration, inner ear causes ( meniere's disease, vestibular neuronitis, bppv), side effect of medication.

Since the dizziness lasted only a short period of time and you are not experiencing the dizziness today, it is possible that it may be due to one of the inner ear causes possibly BPPV (benign paroxysmal positional vertigo).

If it returns then you can be assessed by an ENT doctor or neurologist.Treatment involves the performance of a certain maneuvre- epleys

I hope this helps
