What Causes Sudden Dizzy Spells While Sleeping?

I was lying in bed and just strectched a second to the side when I felt a dizzy spell come on. I waited a minute or two for it to subside, and then was fine. Later in the day, I went to look for some papers in a box I had that was on the ground on the floor, when I bent over to look in the box, I suddenly got a very strong dizzy spell, I let grabbed a hold of an eliptical machine we had next to it and allowed it to subside again; when I bent down again, I had another spell, so I allowed it to settle and did not get what I needed. Later, as I was working, I again bent down to get something when once again I got a dizzy spell, thus. evertime I get it is when I bend over and when I m not, my head feels heavy (if that makes sense). I couldn t say how else to explain it. My recent background is I just returned on a flight Monday afternoon, which was a 2 hour flight. I have been a little tired from what I believe the stress of just making my plane and my ride not picking me up at our designated spot when I advised them I would be there. I then had a stressful second day because I had to pick up my baggage from LAX (so I had to go through busy LA traffic after a tiring night) and get back to my area to go to work on time; along with a preplanned biblestudy the following night. So I was tired from that as well. So I don t know if it is being brought on by my exhaustion, but I do know that I keep getting dizzy every time I bend down, even if its just a slight tilt of the head to complete a paper while standing.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear,

The symptoms as mentioned in your post can be attributed to pathology in the Vestibular Apparatus in inner ear (it is associated with maintenance of body posture & balance) most probably Labyrinthitis or Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo.
Symptomatic relief can be obtained with intake of Vestibular sedatives like Betahistine or Cinnarizine preparations (to be taken only under the guidance of a Physician).

If it still persists, then you need to consult your Physician/ ENT Specialist & get a complete clinical examination done.
Investigations like estimation of blood pressure, blood sugar levels, serum electrolytes & vestibular function tests will be required to rule out any pathological cause for the symptoms.

There is no need to worry, you will be fine.
Till then, maintain adequate hydration & proper nutrition status and avoid stress.
And also take precautions of getting up from bed slowly & avoid sudden head movements.

Wishing you a Good Health.
Take care.
