What Causes Sudden Drop In Platelet Count And Petechia On The Stomach?

Hello. I have Petechia on only my stomach. This last spring I had a huge drop in my platelet count (down to only 15,000) which was unexplained to this day. My dr. Gave me steroids and I became instantly better and haven t had issues with them since. My dr also said the Petechia was a result of the platelet count dropping but that was almost ten months ago, would i still have it from that? I also have very sore legs all of the time that I ve been dealing with for the past couple years. I m starting to worry about bigger issues like leukemia.

Oncologist 's  Response
Hello,

Thrombocytopenia can be inherited or it may be caused by a number of medications or conditions. Whatever the cause, circulating platelets are reduced by one or more of the following processes: trapping of platelets in the spleen decreased platelet production or increased destruction of platelets.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
