What Causes Sudden Electric Sharp Pain Above The Ear?

While driving, I had an electric sharp pain, and it made me and car veer to the right...felt like a quick passing out, but I held tight and righted car. No previous pain over ear, but up about 2 inches. I felt like someone had put an electric wire to my head. It was a hard pain, and quick. I continued driving, could not pull off, but did some deep breathing. It quickly went away along with dizziness, and felt fine after about 5 minutes. I have never experienced it before. I almost went off highway into a river.

Hi Dear ,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of sudden electric sharp pain above the ear. The probable reason for blocked ear is ear infection, because there is pain . Sometime infection spread to ears through eustachian tube , when upper respiratory track infection is left untreated. Trigeminal neuralgia or vitamine deficiency can also cause such symptoms . It could be due to foreign body infection, excessive wax and fluid accumulation. I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist for proper checkup and treatment . Doctor will examine ear and throat physically and ears with otoscope and rule out causes like wax buildup and temporomandibular problem . Doctor may prescribe antibiotics ( amoxicillin) at least for 10 days along with anti inflammatory drugs . Doctor may also refer you to neurologist in case of problem related with nerves. For now kepp your ears dry and take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain .
