What Causes Sudden Fainting And Profuse Sweating After Taking Benedryl?
I took a benedryl for seasonal allergies. Proceeded to go to dinner and had half of glass of wine with dinner and suddenly felt drunk, then thought I was getting sick. Went to bathroom and presumed I fainted. I woke on floor , confused , sweating profusely, and peed and pooped at some point. I have never passed out in my life. No memory of walking into bathroom . I do have HTN and take BP meds. Thoughts?
The fainting and profuse sweating after alcohol when already taken Benadryl indicates hyper circulatory levels of the drug metabolites via induction of P 450 enzyme pathway of the liver through alcohol intake and there was very high levels of active drug particles through its digestion from liver causing fainting and sweating via sympathetic drive. Immediate attention at 911 is mandatory in this instance. However, if available in emergency kit, subcutaneous shot of epinephrine or infusion of normal saline on the spot helps a great by paramedical fellow as well.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
