What Causes Sudden Flashy Vision After Surgery For A Detached Retina?

i just had very colorful lights flashing in my eyes. The same pattern appeared in both eyes in the same place. The pattern itself was like a crescent moon. Over several minutes the pattern expanded out of sight, however, I felt a little queezy. I seem to be ok now. I had a detached retina last year and am familiar with flashing lights and this wasn t anything like that.

Pathologist and Microbiologist 's  Response
Hello,

Appearance of flashes of light is a symptom of retinal detachment. However, appearance of flashes of light after retinal detachment surgery needs to be investigated. Retinal detachment can recur so clinical assessment needs to be done to know the cause of flashes of light. I suggest you to consult an ophthalmologist for clinical assessment to look for probable cause of retinal detachment.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shailja Puri, Pathologist and Microbiologist
