What Causes Sudden Hiccups Followed By Vomiting And Abdominal Discomfort?

My 85 year old dad was eating & suddenly started to get hick ups. For the next 3 hours he was in the bathroom, nausea, spitting up flem & finally dark black vomit Says stomach feels funny. It is now 10:00 p.m. should I wait til morning to call his Dr?

Hello,

Eating too quickly and swallowing air along with foods. Eating too much (fatty or spicy foods, in particular) or drinking too much (carbonated beverages or alcohol) can distend the stomach and irritate the diaphragm, which can cause hiccups.

Other possibilities like gastric or liver problems or renal failure or pneumonia or renal failure etc.

Until examination is done it is difficult to say what it is.

Please consult your physician he will examine and treat you accordingly.
