Hello, I did a random check at my GP 6 weeks ago and had a non fasted sugar level reading of 8.2 as a non-diabetic . He advised a change in diet, which I started in earnest 3 weeks ago. I have taken two readings since then wit h an Accu-chek Aviva: 4 days ago before dinner, my BG reading was 5.6. Today, just after dinner, it is 7.3. Should there be any course for alarm?
Thanks for asking to HCM. Brief answer: Simple carbohydrate rich foods and drinks,Anxiety, drugs etc.. Detailed answer: I understand your concern. From the history given,I don't think, you should be alarmed until anything is proven.Normally after meal, the glucose gets absorbed into blood and in response to this, postprandial wave of insulin is released from pancreas which reduces the raising glucose level back to normal range.Post prandial blood glucose is measured usually 2 hours after starting of meal and values below 10 mmol/l is considered normal. The value you measured just after dinner is not sufficient to know your glycemic status .I would suggest you to get opinion from diabetologist with baseline sugar tests(Fasting blood Sugar,Post prandial blood sugar after 2 hours). If Hope this information helps you.Take care.
