What Causes Sudden Increase In Cylindrical Power Within 3 Months?

Kind Attention Paediatric Opthalmologists-

Myopia of 10 and sudden increase in cylindrical power in right eye between last test in aug 2011 and nov 2011.

My son is 4.5 years, 110cm with myopia since birth but we found the same in Feb 2009. Power has been constant since Sep 2009 for 2 years but this sudden increase in cyldrical power from 1,75 to 4.25 has given us a jolt. We are doing a retest this week but are anxious.

Please advise can the cornea change within 3 months? Is it possible that the child did not cooperate during test? Should this be referred to an established hospital immediately?

Pls help....Kind Regards

Hello
It seems from the history that your son is having high myopia with rapid increase in cylindrical power.
The rapid increase in refractive power is common in children because of growth of eye but this requires evaluation to rule out causes like corneal diseases. Along with this the refraction needs to be verified and should be done under atropine to find out the exact refraction.

Thank you
