What Causes Sudden Loss Of Balance And Feeling Disoriented?

I suddenly (without tripping) lose my balance and begin to go forward, knowing i m going to fall but unable to stop myself. I had the experience 15 years ago, three years ago and six weeks ago. The last time people I know were behind me. They said my steps became irregular and I just went forward like I couldn t catch myself. I then fell without raising my arms or anything to help break the fall. I did a complete faceplate. No bruises on my legs. Two very black eyes, a cut over my eye that required glue stitches, a nose they thought was broken (it wasn t, but six weeks later it still looks a little crooked). My first ride in an ambulance to a hospital in London. Any ideas?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Sudden loss of balance or feeling disoriented is commonly due to dehydration, BP & blood sugar issues, vertigo, inner ear problem, delirium, dementia, head injury, decreased sensory perception, bad posture, diminished strength, etc.

You are suggested to maintain your blood sugar & blood pressure to normal levels. Take the prescribed medications without fail. Stay hydrated.

You are suggested to visit ER, get physically examined. Get your inner ear examined, get audiometry test done.

If vertigo is detected, you will be treated with medicines or surgery, depending upon the severity of the pathology detected.

Get a thorough medical examination done, get CBC, Urinalysis, get Imaging tests done to detect the pathology causing the disturbance in gait & disorientation.

Your treatment will depend upon the severity of the pathology detected.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
