What Causes Sudden Loss Of Breath And Dizziness?

In the last two nights as I was sitting on my couch, I all of a sudden found myself gasping for breath. The first time it happened I got a bit dizzy with it. tonight it was just the gasping for breath. This has never happened before while wide awake. But I've been experiencing this just as I'm falling asleep lately.

Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your concern.
In my opinion, we should first rule out Pulmonary embolism and heart related to because both of them can cause sudden onset loss of breath and dizziness.
So get done
1. Ecg, 2d echo to rule out heart related diseases.
2. CT Pulmonary angiography to rule Pulmonary embolism.
If all these are normal then no need to worry for major heart and lung related diseases.
Sometimes, stress and anxiety can also cause similar symptoms. So if you are having these then better to avoid stress and tension, be relax and calm. Don't worry, you will be alright. But first rule out heart and lung diseases.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
