What Causes Sudden Loss Of Memory And Tiredness In An Elderly Person?
Yesterday I was with 2 friends, during breakfast one friend, female, age 82, seemed to be in a bit of a stupor..ie was sitting and just staring with her mouth slightly open, we noticed spoke to her and she seems a bit disoriented but seem to rejoin us pretty quickly and then seemed tired but okay. We then had a visit to a museum and all day she seemed tired and a bit slow. We came home and she went to bed and slept. Today she could not remember any details of the day yesterday, where we went, who we were with....and about that same time she had trouble swallowing the food she was chewing and began choking. As some time passed she still could not bring back the events of yesterday. Again she looked a bit pale and tired. Should she see a doctor immediately? What kind of doctor should she see.
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I have gone through the description given about the sudden loss of memory, disorientation and tiredness in an elderly female of 82 years. This is due to 'transient ischemic attack' (TIA). Kindly get her blood pressure checked. Also she needs to check her coagulation profile by Prothrombin Time (PT) and Activated Partial Thromboplastin Time (APTT) tests. She might require CT scan to find out weather such episode could be caused by internal hemorrhage in brain due to rupture of blood vessel. Kindly consult Physician with the reports and take proper advise regarding the same. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best.
