What Causes Sudden Loss Of Weight Along With Yeast Intolerance?

I am a friend of a young man who has been unable to get a true diagnosis for his disease. 10 years ago he lost 50 lbs, became anemic, low platelet count, and was told he is allergic to yeast. Total intolerance and can not eat anything with yeast in it. BUT HE DOES NOT HAVE CELIACS. He was tested numerous times over the years. NOT celiacs. Gastroenterologsts are puzzled and he may have to go to Mayo Clinic. Thoughts Please?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

First of all, it's sad to know what you had been going through lately. Based on the history you have shared, your friend may be suffering from gastroenteropatjies like Whipple's disease and he should get this upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopy done.

Along with that he should also get his blood tests repeated and may also need bone marrow biopsy done.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
