What Causes Sudden Obstruction In Breathing In Infant?
my grandson is 2 weeks old...when he is on his back, it seems that he gets scared and stops breathing for a few seconds then he moves his arms and then cries a very little. He was just at his 2 week check up and the doctor isn t concerned at this time....what could be causing this?
The breath holding spells are quite normal physiology in many of the new born. However, a clinical examination at the time of episode with cardio-respiratory status is mandatory to rule out any:
- Valvular disease of the heart - Congenital developmental disorder of cardiac structures - Lung maturity related issues - other systemic illness manifesting as such episode
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
