What Causes Sudden Onset Of Muscle Contractions In Leg?

About an hour ago, I got out of vehicle (I was passenger) and my right leg jerked several times and went out from under me. We had only been in van 15 minutes. If I wouldn t have been able to fall back against van, I would have fallen. It only lasted 10-15 seconds. I got a shopping cart and went into store. I am 73 years old and in good health-take blood pressure meds which control b/p. I wondered if I was having a stroke or a pre-cursor to one? I am a female, 5 7 and weigh 155 #s. Thank you

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

It may be due to disturbances in the level of your electrolytes like deficiency of calcium or magnesium. You are advised to get your electrolyte levels tested at first and see the results.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Satnarain Bansal, General & Family Physician
