What Causes Sudden Pain And Slight Discoloration In Lower Back?
hi doctor, I was playing basketball a few days ago and all of a sudden my lower back started to really hurt. at first I figured I just pulled something and went home to rest and ice/heat it. the pain has not lessened after alost 5 days now and is still a sharp pain that seems to happen anytime I move it or turn it or sometimes even standing. Also recently I have noticed a slight discoloration in my lower back near where it hurts. is it ok to just rest and ice/heat till it gets better? or should I goin a see one?
Discoloration in the lower back after playing basket ball can be due to some hurt causing blood clots below the skin. Apply ointment Thrombophob in the area affected to get relieve, do not massage just apply.
Such a type of hurt is common in basket ball players. Muscle strain causes pain, inflammation & muscle weakness.
However, if you suspect any back injuries you can get an X-ray done to stay on the safer side.
Rest, ice & compression are effective. Anti inflammatory (NSAIDS, Combiflam)& muscle relaxants (Baclofen) are effective. You can take one sos when required.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
