What Causes Sudden Pain On Left Side Of Jaw And Neck Along With Breathlessness?

It started about 5 days ago, I was sitting at my desk and all of a sudden I started to get an ache under the left side of my jaw. The day after going to the doctors, my neck started to feel thick, sort of like someone had there hands around the left side of my neck, and I can sometimes feel it uncomfortable to breath (but only on my left side), if I lift my head up, I can breath easy like normal and it becomes unnoticeable.

Hello,

Breathlessness or short breath associated with sudden pain on left side of jaw and neck may be indicative of developing CAD, coronary artery disease. You are suggested to get clinically examined by a cardiologist. Get blood analysis, urinalysis, blood glucose, lipid function tests, echo, EKG, X-ray, stress test, etc., done to detect the pathology. You will be treated accordingly. You are suggested to reduce weight if obese. Do regular walking in the morning and evening.

Avoid trans fat, oily food, full fat dairy products, cheese, red meat and stay away from smoking, alcohol, etc. Take adequate rest, quality sleep. Stay well hydrated and control your blood sugar levels at all costs as it will trigger your symptoms. Your treating doctor may refer you to a neurologist and dentist to rule out any other pathology that may cause such symptoms.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
