What Causes Sudden Pressure On Neck And Black Dots In Vision?

Hi, I am 38 yrs old, female, 5 1 , 120 lbs... Yesterday I was driving and had a sudden sensation, as though I was going to blackout. My vison went to tiny dots of black and then came right back. I had intense pressure on my neck right after and a run of PVC s. It took about 30 minutes to feel better. Just wondering what could have caused such an incident. Thank you!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

There are several possible causes for the symptoms you experienced. One possible cause is a vasovagal response, which is a reflex response that can occur when the body reacts to certain triggers, such as pain, fear, or emotional stress. This can cause a sudden drop in blood pressure and a decrease in blood flow to the brain, leading to symptoms such as dizziness, lightheadedness, and blacking out. The pressure on your neck may have been a result of muscle tension or spasm that occurred as a result of the episode.

Another possible cause could be related to your cardiovascular system. The PVCs you experienced could be indicative of arrhythmia, or abnormal heart rhythm, which can cause symptoms such as dizziness, lightheadedness, and blacking out. This can be caused by a variety of factors, including heart disease, electrolyte imbalances, and medication side effects.

Other potential causes could include a neurological issue such as a migraine or seizure, or even an issue with your eyes or visual system. It is important to follow up with your healthcare provider to discuss your symptoms and undergo appropriate testing or evaluation to determine the cause and appropriate treatment.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
