What Causes Sudden Rise In Heart Rate And Breathlessness?
I m 55 years old and I think in fairly good health. I ve noticed recently that when I get my heart rate up doing physical work, I find myself struggling to breath. I m 5 10 , 215lbs. I admit that I could be in better cardo shape, but I m not super over weight. Could there be a heart related issue?
Shortness of breath can be related to the heart, lungs or general conditions such as anemia.
To determine the cause, your doctor would need to take note of your history including any history of risk factors for heart disease (high blood pressure, high cholesterol, smoking, weight, diabetes, family history).
Investigations such as an ECG, chest x ray and full blood count would be needed. The ECG would take a look at the heart rate, rhythm and identify any areas that may not be getting enough blood
The complete blood count would determine if anemia is present and the chest x ray would take a look at the lungs.
I hope this helps
