What Causes Sudden Rise Or Fall In The Blood Sugar Level?

So I am a 44 year old male. I take medication for hypertension and cholesterol. I am 5 11 and weight 225lbs. My sugar drops into the 60 s sometimes and then other times it goes up in to the 120 s. I am not sure what spikes it or drops and is this too low or too high? Is there anything I can do when it s either low or high to bring it down, other than medication?

Hi,

Based on the history you have shared, if you having low sugar incidences, the blood pressure medication are less likely to be causative but for lipid-lowering medications you need to assess liver function tests which can be altered and may affect sugar levels of liver function is affected indirectly.

Also, an endocrinologist review and C peptide levels should be done to assess for any endocrine cause of low sugars. Serum cortisol levels and serum electrolytes should also be assessed to rule out Addison's.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
