Hi,
The most common cause of seizures in this age group is epilepsy. But not every person who has a seizure has epilepsy.
Epileptic seizures – People with epilepsy have a type of brain dysfunction that intermittently causes episodes of abnormal electrical activity.
Sometimes seizures happen because of:
High fever, which can be associated with an infection such as meningitis, Prolonged Lack of sleep, Electrolyte imbalance-Low blood sodium (
hyponatremia), Medications, such as certain pain relievers, antidepressants or
smoking cessation therapies, that lower the seizure threshold, Head trauma that causes an area of bleeding in the brain, Stroke,
Brain tumor, Illegal or recreational drugs, such as
amphetamines or cocaine,
Alcohol abuse, during times of withdrawal or extreme intoxication, Non contrast CT and MRI Brain screening with EEG would reveal the cause.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
