What Causes Sudden Severe Pain Radiating Throughout Chest, Numb Arms And Fingers?
My grandson is 23. He visited the emergency room 6 mo ago and again this week. Symptoms were sudden severe pain from front to back in chest area. His arms and fingers got numb. His vision was blurry. Both times the emergency doctors took blood and said they found no evidence of a heart attack. They think he had allergic reactions to something unknown. He works on equipment in oil fields in south TX. What could his problem be and what should he do? An extra bit of information, he was born 2 month premature with birth weight of less than three pounds but has been healthy up to this point.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi,
I would suggest to: - Get his ECG done to exclude coronary insufficiency and take a breath of relief - An X-ray of cervical and spine would reveal his spinal normality - Any spinal problem can cause such pain especially if he has to work in constant bent spinal position. In such a case he needs totally different management with a spinal surgeons advise.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Vasudha Jayant Athavale, General & Family Physician
