Neurologist 's  Response
Hello,

Judging from your description, I would say that a Herpes Zoster infection (shingles) should be considered as the cause. It manifests with sharp lancinating or burning pain like the one you describe as well as skin rash in the territory covered by the affected nerve.

Of course diagnosis can't be confirmed without at least inspecting the area so you should see your primary doctor. If confirmed antiviral medication like acyclovir should be prescribed as well as medication for the pain.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Olsi Taka,
Neurologist.
