What Causes Sudden Sharp Pain In Left Calf Muscles?

about a week ago i devolped a strong sharp pain in my left calf muscle .i sem to almost go away. a little while ago i decided to go for a walk.after a short walk i noticed both calf muscles were in great sharp pain.i did some strechung and i kept walking thinking it would strech out and be ok.i almost called a friend to pick me up because i thought i was not going to be able to get back to my car.any idear

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have sudden sharp pain in left calf muscles . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like peripheral neuropathy , injury , gout , soft tissue injury or venous insufficiency .Doctor may recommend orthotic devices like special shoe . You should reduce your weight .I would suggest you to consult podiatrist for proper examination . Doctor may order CT scan or x-ray along with blood test and urine test and physical examination to confirm the diagnosis . Doctor may also refer you to orthopedic surgeon for foot problem , who may prescribe diuretic along with muscle relaxant , anti inflammatory . Doctor may also recommend surgery in case of any abnormality . For now avoid doing any activities that causes pain
- ICE COMPRESSION over the painful area once in 2-3 hours
- Elevate your leg on a cushion or a pillow while you are lying or sitting down
- Use analgesic anti-inflammatory medications like Advil or Aleve to reduce the pain and inflammation.
