Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Sudden Sharp Pain In Upper Chest Region?
I am able to exercise very intensely for long periods of time with no discomfort. I participate in this kind of activity 4-5 x/week regularly, and have been for years. Recently, I've had three instances where I was at a resting state (at work, etc.), but then had to jump up and run up the steps. At the top of the steps, I got a very brief, sharp pain in the upper chest region. I literally goes away within 5-10 seconds, and my increased heart rate returns to normal as well. Is this trapped gas or what?
General & Family Physician, Dr. Lohit K's Response
Hi,
With the presentation of sharp pain in the upper chest region after exercise and disappearance within 5-10 seconds cannot be due to gas. This suggest for cardiac evaluation with stress test where in your heart, BP will be tested with increasing stress in the form or exercise. This will help to rule out any cardiac pathology.
Hope this helps you.
Regards
