Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Sudden Spasm And Burning Sensation In The Chest?
I get sudden , quick spasm with burning sensation that is only a second or two, in the center of my chest . It stops me in my tracks as it feels like what you may think the beginning of a heart attack might feel like , but, it s gone quickly. It s followed with a flush sensation. I have to get up and walk around and then I usually belch. I m on omeprazole and take other antacids , probiotics , Digestive enzymes etc. cardiologist says it s not cardiac . Gastro want to do an egd. It s been happening for several years and comes and goes . Right now it s back for several weeks along with GI discomfort that moves around the abdomen . Has anyone else described this ?
I suggest you do not worry too much about it and you should make your mind regarding this. Your cardio said it is not related to the heart.
Gastro requires further check-ups and I am sure it is not something to be really worried.
Could be some simple ulcers. Acidity related heartburn can be cured. But there is something called anxiety-related chest pain.
That happens because you become anxious about your condition often, then it triggers psycho-somatic pain responses. In that sense, you should be reassured.
I suggest psychotherapy for you after finishing all the tests. Therefore I suggest consulting a skin specialist for physical examination, diagnosis and treatment.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. K. V. Anand, Psychologist
