What Causes Sudden Spasms In Thighs And Arms?

I was sitting on my boyfriend's lap and as I was bored, I started to draw lightly with my nails on his thighs. He proceeded to thrust at me and he claimed that it was a spasm and he couldn't control it. The same happened with his arm. Do you know why?
